The Facilities

The Rocky Mount-Wilson Airport serves the Counties of Nash, Wilson and Edgecombe with regional air service. Located on NC Highway 97, RWI is just 6.5 miles from Rocky Mount, 9 miles from Wilson and only minutes from industrial traffic routes I-95, US 64, 264, 301 and NC 98. Although the airport facility is located in the Nash County zoning jurisdiction, it is centrally located in the region it serves. The zoning districts surrounding the facility are complementary to future airport expansion and improvements.

The RWI facility has a newly renovated, modern, and comfortable terminal building, FREE long term parking, and curbside pick-up and drop-off of luggage. Area businesses with based aircraft at the Rocky Mount-Wilson airport include: Hardee's Food Systems, Guardian Corporation, Standard Commercial Tobacco, and Centura Bank.

To fulfill general aviation needs, AirCare, Inc. is a full service Fixed Base Operator. Services offered include: fueling , avionics repair service, major and minor airframe and engine repairs, flight instruction aircraft charger or rentals, and tie down storage.

RWI provides all users access to the region with a 7000 foot all-weather runway. The airport is equipped with an instrument landing system, approach lights with sequenced lighting, weather, instrument

markings, high intensity runway lights, runway end identifier lights, visual approach slope indicator and 1,000- foot overrun. The taxiways are equipped with taxiway edge lighting and lighted taxi guidance signs for night operations. The facility is listed on the Charlotte Sectional Aeronautical Charts. electronic aids at the airport are Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range with Distance Measuring Equipment (VOR with DME).
